Waterlilies Suite by Alex Laurenzi
NJ-native saxophonist and composer Alex Laurenzi presents his eight-part original suite for jazz sextet based on Claude Monet's eight paintings "The Water Lilies" in the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. The suite attempts to translate the museum viewing experience into sound, drawing on musical influences from composers such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Claude Debussy, and Ambrose Akinmusire, to name a few. Laurenzi aims to evoke the rich emotional palette of Monet’s paintings and to allow the listener to experience these emotions on their own terms. The Sextet features:
